“The Drum Beat of Africa” is the third quilt in what has turned into my “About Africa” series. First I made “The Joys of Africa”. I liked it so much I made “The Beauty of Africa” and now “The Drum Beat of Africa”.
Like the other quilts in the series, “The Drum Beat of Africa” is a quilted wallhanging composed of a wide variety of African fabrics. It measures 46 x52 inches.
A close inspection of the quilt reveals many scenes of African life including dancing drums, people and the continent itself. I pieced it on my Janome sewing machine, and it was machine quilted by my friend Maxine Moore.
The back of the quilt features a tan fabric. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
I signed it on the front. This quilt is one-of-a-kind.
