Sometime I make a quilt just to capture what I am feeling that day. That is how “Praying For Spring” was born. I started on this quilt in the dead of winter. Atlanta was having an unusually harsh winter. My pipes froze and burst causing a mess in my house and a high plumbing bill. Naturally, I was sick of winter.

“Praying For Spring” starts with 3 traditional star blocks in batik fabrics. Several borders enhance the blocks with the last African border making an emphatic purple and orange statement. Words play a big role in this quilt. The words “praying for spring” are appliquéd in one of the borders. Other words include “winter wishes”, “snowy days” and “let the sun shine”. Painted bird buttons add to the theme of the quilt.

“Praying For Spring” was pieced on my machine and quilted on a long arm. The applique is raw edge applique.

The theme of the quilt continues on the back with a purple and green butterfly print. There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt. I signed it on the front.

This quilt is one-of-a-kind.
