The unique batiks in “Playing in the Dirt” inspired the name. They are from Turtle Hand batiks. The colors reminded me of hot summer days growing up in the south where I definitely played in the dirt a lot. By the time I finished hand quilting this quilt, I had visited the desert of Dubai and experienced a different kind of playing in the dirt.
“Playing in the Dirt” measures 39x47 inches. It is lovingly hand quilted with pearl cotton thread using a big stitch. Butterfly charms and painted wooden buttons add texture and depth to the quilt. A charm says “live in the moment.”
There is a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt. I signed it on the front and attached a charm that says “laugh often”.
When was the last time you played in the dirt?
