In early 2020 before the virus put the world on hold, my daughter India and I traveled to Kenya to go on safari. It was an amazing life-changing trip. We loved every minute of it. One memorable thing about our safari was how early we had to get up each morning to be in our jeep. We had to leave early to try to see the animals as they looked for their breakfast. We rolled out every morning at 6:15 a.m.! Coffee was a must!
“Strong Safari Coffee” is an art quilt that tries to capture that memory. It includes coffee motifs, beautiful foliage and African fabric. I even found some fabric with the word “Kenya” stamped into the background.
“Strong Safari Coffee” measures 43x48 inches. I pieced her on Jessica Janome, my sewing machine, and my friend Maxine Moore quilted her on her long arm.
I carried out the theme of the quilt with a flannel coffee fabric on the back. I attached a hanging sleeve on the back for easy display and a label that documents the quilt.
This quilt is one-of-a-kind. I signed it on the front.
